The Athletic Director position is that of a Department Head. All Department Head positions are non-bunk, meaning that the staff member has their own private room. The Athletic Director oversees all other staff members in the Waterfront Department.
Department Heads are essential to the functioning of a well operated camp. It is expected that all Department Heads are self inclusive in many areas of camp, and have a full understanding of the scope of the entire camp program.
The Athletic Department is divided into two categories and has a Separate Department Head for each of these. The first department is for Team Sports, and includes the following programs: Soccer, Softball, Basketball, Hockey, Lacrosse, and Volleyball. The second department is for Solo sports, and includes the following programs: Golf, Mountain Biking, Archery, Go Karts, and Gymnastics. The Athletic Director’s responsibilities for these programs include, but are not limited to:
Working with Program Director to ensure appropriate scheduling
Working with the Camp Director to ensure appropriate supply of equipment
Ensuring proper care and maintenance of equipment
Overseeing Specialists and ensuring appropriate and safe teaching methods
Coordinating and scheduling of inter-camp games
As with all Department Head positions, we are looking to establish long term relationships that will afford consistency from one season to the next. In subsequent years, the Department Head will often assist in off-season hiring of their own departmental staff.
Qualified applicants for either of these positions should have a strong athletic background. It is essential that the applicant share our philosophies which value the importance of sportsmanship and participation. For the Team Sports Athletic Director, competitive experience in one of the included activities at a collegiate or equivalent level is a requirement.
