General Counselors

General Counselors will live in a cabin with 7-8 campers and 1 or 2 other counselors. Together they will be responsible for overseeing the daily domestic issues that occur within the cabin and among the campers. While the specific duties will vary based on the age of the campers in the cabin, all counselors are responsible for the following:

 

Ensuring the use of proper hygiene throughout the day.

Escorting campers to lineups and/or meals.

Helping the campers choose their daily elective activities.

Ensuring that campers are maintaining a healthy diet.

Ensuring bunk cleanliness.

Helping to resolve any disputes or dilemmas among the cabin mates.

Being available to any camper that needs additional attention.

 

These are the core elements of being a counselor and always are given top priority.

Other Responsibilities: Each General Counselor works 5 or 6 of the daily activity periods in one of two ways. He/She may chaperone their campers to an activity and assist in the operation of that activity area, or he/she may help in the operation of one of the other activities. The main purpose of the General Counselor is to provide a consistent source of authority, especially to younger campers, who need additional attention at their activities and in their cabins.

Qualified applicants for this position should have a solid understanding of residential camping. Previous experience working with children is preferred.
